Unlike the iPhone which only has one new line every year and is made by one brand only, Android has a myriad of cellphones to choose from with various specifications, features and prices. It also comes from various brands , each of which has characteristics such as fixing low prices for high specifications, or fixing prices above others for standard specifications but build-quality champions.

With such complexity, it's no wonder that in the end many are confused when they want to buy a new Android phone. Well, if you are one of those people, the following are important details that need to be considered when choosing a new Android phone.

1. Price

To find the perfect Android phone, the first thing to look at is the price tag. Price can be an indicator to measure how good the cellphone you want to buy is. There are three price classes for Android phones, namely entry-level USD$100 - $200, mid-range USD$350 - $500 and flagship $800 - $1000- and above.

The entry-level is the lowest class with sufficient specifications for light activities, while the mid-range is usually equipped with qualified innards and special features, even though it cannot be on the same level as the flagship powered by the latest chipset , carries a champion camera and has features that are not available in the class above and beneath it.

2. Screen size

When smartphones first became popular, the normal screen size was 3.5 inches. Now, that normal standard has grown to 6 to 7 inches. If you ask what screen size is right for you, it depends on the size of your hand and the length of your fingers. If your hands are big, then a screen of 6 inches or above will feel just right. However, if your hands are small, it's a good idea to have a screen of only 5 or 5.5 inches.

Apart from size, the screen-to-body ratio is also an important detail. Unlike in the past, the majority of Android phones now have thin bezels (above 80 percent) to increase comfort not only when held, but also when used for daily activities.

3. Extra features

Many Android phones today are equipped with extra features to make the experience more unique. Some of them are like the stylus that is generally present on large cellphones , a fingerprint sensor for a more sophisticated security alternative and face unlock which is now very responsive.

Consider looking at extra features like that when you want to buy a new Android phone. However, do a little research to make sure these features are not just a gimmick and you can really be helped by the presence of these powerful features.

4. Brand

Besides price, brand can also be a factor to assess the quality of an Android phone. Some brands that have great reputations include Samsung, OnePlus, Google, Huawei, Nokia and LG. To determine based on this, you can do this by looking at the UI and how much bloatware these brands offer on their cellphones.

Samsung, for example, has its own default skin, One UI, which has a cool appearance but comes with a number of additional applications that cannot be removed. On the other hand, brands such as Google and Nokia, offer a pure Android experience with a look that is fairly mainstream , but doesn't carry any extra apps.

5. Performance

There are three key components in the specifications of a cellphone, namely the chipset , RAM and internal storage. The chipset is the brain of cellphone which is the main power source. Then RAM, is the part that is responsible for multitasking matters . The latter is internal storage, which is where you store applications, songs, photos and various other files .

When you want to buy a new Android phone, always look at these three key components and make sure that they are sufficient for your needs. If it's only for light activity, then an entry-level cellphone with a makeshift chipset is enough for you. But if you are a person who likes to play games and watch YouTube often, then a mid-range cellphone with decent RAM can handle your needs without a hitch.

6. Battery

The battery is an important part to consider when choosing a new Android cellphone. Don't be fooled, the number of mAh is not always a determining factor for a long battery life. There are other factors and you need to know about them. For example, higher resolution means more battery drain and newer chipsets mean more power consumption.

Then, there is also a refresh rate, which is getting higher, making HP more wasteful. Instead of looking at the capacity alone, look specifically at whether there are other components or features that take up a fair amount of battery life. To be more certain, you can see the estimated battery life from cellphones by looking at reviewer reviews .

7. Software update

Keeping up-to-date with the latest OS and security patches is very important. Unfortunately, not many Android phones receive software updates on a regular basis or over the years since their release. Most receive only one OS update and a few security patch updates .

Flagship- class cellphones have a greater chance of getting OS updates faster and more than once. While mid-range and entry-level cellphones, which are actually cheaper, have a chance to get multiple OS updates, but the chances are low. It all depends on the brand that makes the cellphone.

That was a review of some important details to pay attention to when choosing a new Android phone. If possible, go to the store where you want to buy the cellphone and try the cellphone you want directly. If it's still lacking, you can also look at reviewer reviews on YouTube to see what your target cellphone really deserves to buy.
