7 Exciting 2021 Instagram Features Known by Few

Instagram is one of the most popular social media today with more than one billion users worldwide. No wonder with its massive popularity, Facebook as the owner continues to push new things into social media that was born in 2010.

The new thing in question is of course a feature, which is just like other social media, its existence is not fully known by its users. Here are some new Instagram features that not many people know about.

1. Specific reply message options

A few weeks ago, Instagram added the ability to reply to specific messages. This is so that the sender and receiver can know which conversation is being discussed.

To use this feature, users only need to press and hold the conversation they want to reply to. Previously, features like this were present in other applications from Facebook, namely WhatsApp. Apart from replying specifically, there are also options to copy and forward specific conversations.

2. A new way to switch accounts

For users who have two accounts and both are logged in, Instagram makes it easy to switch from one account to another. The method is very easy, users only need to " double-tap " the account profile photo which is located in the lower right corner. If there are more than two accounts, this method will not work, but the user must long press on the profile photo to bring up all logged-in accounts.

3. Vanish Mode

Next is Vanish Mode which, if activated, will make messages from both sender and recipient disappear after the message is read or the conversation is closed. Ongoing private conversations can still be a screenshot, but Instagram will display a label as well as a warning " you took a screenshot ".

To activate the new feature, users can immediately open a conversation in DM then swipe up to enter Vanish mode. Meanwhile, to deactivate it, just swipe up again.

4. Mute other users' Stories

Instagram now allows its users to mute other users' Stories, but still wants to follow that user. To do so, users only need to press and hold the associated user's profile photo in the Stories section.

Then, select "Mute" and tap "Mute Story". Not completely lost, the mute user Stories can still be seen but is at the end or end of the Stories bar. Instagram says that if a user is mute, it will not be informed that a user has muted them.

5. Give emoji reactions in conversation

This one feature is the same as how Facebook allows users to react to other users' posts. Instagram offers the same thing but not in posts on the timeline, but in conversations in DM.

However, what can be responded to with emojis is not only casual conversations but also posts shared via DM. To give an emoji reaction, the user just needs to long-press the related conversation and all kinds of emojis will appear to make a reaction.

6. New Stories Reaction feature

Instagram is currently trying out a new reaction feature for Stories. In the current version, users can only see reactions from other users in the DM. In the latest version, it says that users don't need to go to DM to see reactions.

Instagram will make it easier for its users by bringing up other users' reactions to a special icon in the Stories section. Also, there will be a new, cooler animation to react to other users' Stories.

7. Watch Together

Last but not least is Watch Together - which, as the name suggests, allows users to “watch” their favourite TV shows with their friends. Apart from TV shows, content on IGTV, Reels and videos that can be trending can also be seen together while having a conversation.

Just like on Messenger, to use this feature, the user first needs to start a video chat and then press the media button in the lower right corner of the screen. If the user selects TV & Movies, Instagram will display a variety of content from Facebook Watch.

That was a review of Instagram's new features that not many people know about. For yourself, what features do you expect to see on Instagram soon?
